How to play the lawn mower game

Mow every grass square in the garden before the fuel reaches zero. Eight original gardens range from a small patch to a winding six-by-six lawn.

Mow a complete route

1. Choose a garden. The mower’s starting square is already cut.
2. Use the direction buttons or focus the lawn and press Arrow keys or WASD.
3. Each legal move uses one fuel. Stones and the edge of the garden block movement without using fuel.
4. Cut grass can be crossed again, but every crossing still uses fuel.
5. Cut the final grass square to win. If fuel runs out first, undo a move or restart.

Hints and undo

Hint checks for a complete route from your current position with the fuel remaining. A highlighted square is the next step of a valid route. If the current route cannot finish, undo earlier moves or restart. Undo restores the mower, fuel and grass to their previous state.

Keyboard controls

Focus the lawn. Arrow keys or WASD move. Z undoes a move, H asks for a hint and R restarts. Restart asks for confirmation while a garden is in progress.

Saved progress

The selected garden, your route and a list of completed gardens are saved in this browser’s local storage. The route is replayed through the game’s movement rules when restored. Progress does not synchronize between devices.
